Natures Corner at the heart of Newbury's most dynamic and friendly shopping area

A Christmas Street carnival in Bartholomew Street in Newbury, where Natures Corner is located, has confirmed the area as the most dynamic and friendliest shopping street in Newbury.

"This was our third carnival and definitely our biggest and best yet," said Caroline Withers co-owner of Natures Corner, one of the lead organisers. "Bartholomew Street is developing a fantastic atmosphere and with events like Saturday's carnival is fast-becoming the place to shop. Our takings have been steadily rising since we opened six years ago and events like Saturday's Carnival provide an additional boost."

Stilt-walkers, seasonal fare and fake snow and bubble machines brought lots of shoppers into the area on Saturday 3 December. Throughout the day, Pip and Pop strutted their stuff on stilts entertaining adults and children alike, and Lisa Eastley of Natures Corner demonstrated and even taught some of her twirling skills to enthusiastic young shoppers.

Local radio Kick FM broadcast live from the Carnival all morning and in the afternoon, the street echoed to the sound of East Woodhay Silver Band. Santa Claus and one of his little elves were there with bags of sweets for children and there were hot chestnuts, mulled Norfolk punch and snacks available for everyone.

Local organic meet producers Christmas Farm were invited to set up a stand selling organic hot dogs and beef burgers and did a rip-roaring trade. "It was a terrific and very friendly atmosphere," said Phil Scrivener of Christmas Farm in Enborne. "It was very impressive to see the way Bartholomew Street traders worked so well together as a team to put on such a good Carnival. Shoppers obviously really enjoyed it and lots of them asked when we would be back."

Traders organising the Bart Street Christmas Bash were: Debenhams, Emporium, Kitchen Monger, Laura Ashley, Maher The Bookseller, Naseby Collection, National Schoolwear Centres, Natures Corner, Roderick Anthony and Snappy Snaps.
