Hectic Lifestyles

Living in our fast-paced society is a stressful existence. Stress has become a way of life, and although a certain amount is beneficial, the majority of people who experience less than optimum health can attribute stress as the root cause of ill health.

Stress can manifest itself in many ways, usually as niggling complaints which are a constant reminder of the pressure we are under. Crises at work, relationships, fears and insecurity can lead to recurring ailments such as headaches, indigestion, anxiety or insomia.

What you eat can make a difference to your stress levels - caffeine, alcohol, sugar, salt and saturated fats are all stress aggravators.

Wholgrains, fresh fruit, vegetables, and fibre should be increased in the diet and additional supplements may be necessary to balance out the diet.

The B vitamins are essential for the functioning of the adrenal glands which regulate stress. Hectic and stressful lifestyles can easily deplete B vitamins and lead to anxiety and nervous disorders.

Vitamin C is also a stress vitamin and is used up rapidly when the body is under stressful situations. Adequate Vitamin C prevents over-depletion of B vitamins and also controls mental fatigue.
